A systematic review of the current literature on retreatment with omalizumab of patients with relapsing chronic spontaneous urticaria was performed. Published evidence shows that retreatment is safe and clinically effective, and that time to complete clinical response reduces as the number of retreatments increases.

Clindamycin is widely used in the prophylaxis and treatment of infections due to its broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity. Hypersensitivity to clindamycin seems to be not very common (less than 1% of drug-allergic reactions) and it mostly appears as delayed T-cell mediated. For the diagnosis, skin testing is considered to be highly sensitive and rather […]

Introduction. Adherence in allergen immunotherapy is crucial for its efficacy. At least 3 years of treatment are recommended for achieving a long-term modifying effect. Objectives. To assess patient’s adherence and to identify determinant factors for allergen subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) suspension in patients with respiratory allergy. Methods. Retrospective analysis of the medical record of patients submitted […]
Objectives. To describe clinical manifestations and performed diagnostic workup, focusing drug challenge tests (DCT), in patients with drug allergy. Methods. Retrospective study including all patients with skin tests (STs) or DCT-based drug allergy diagnosis, between 01/2014 – 06/2018 in a Portuguese allergy unit. Data were collected from electronic and paper-based clinical records. Results. We had 75 drug allergy diagnoses. Most […]

Previous published work has indicated that treatment of the inside of the nose with certain wavelengths of light can reduce the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. The objective of the study was to compare the efficacy of the phototherapy device on the relief of a range of symptoms provoked by indoor and outdoor allergens. A phototherapy […]
Background. Drug hypersensitivity in children impacts the quality of life of the patients and their caregivers. Measurements of the quality of life in children are different from adults, because children cannot answer the questions. This research aimed to develop and validate the Parent-reported Drug Hypersensitivity Quality of Life Questionnaire (P-DrHy-Q). Methods. The 21-item scale was initially generated by […]
Tryptase is a serin-protease produced and released by mast cells after IgE-mediated or non-IgE mediated stimuli. We here review the various aspects related to the molecular characteristics of the enzyme and its biological effects, the genetic basis of its production and the release kinetics. Recommendations for the clinical use of tryptase measurement developed by a […]

We describe a female diagnosed with non-allergic asthma. On March 24, 2016, examination of the skin-biopsy specimen revealed dense eosinophilic infiltration, and the Fip-1-like 1-platelet-derived growth factor receptor a fusion gene in peripheral blood mononuclear cells was negative. She was diagnosed with idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome. She was treated with intravenous methylprednisolone (MPSL), and subsequent oral […]
Drug allergies are developed by antibody or cell-mediated reactions as immunologic mechanisms. It has been demonstrated that hypersensitivity reaction to certain allergens may play a role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) focused on food allergies. A total of 256 patients with UC were divided in two groups: 203 patients with active UC […]
